1876, Wrexham’s High Street

For Blood Among The Threads, we needed to recreate at least most of the shops along Wrexham’s High Street in 1876, like this…

My favourite? J.F. Edisbury’s pharmacy, at Number Three. He sells medications, ginger beers, and much more, including special “Wrexham Exhibition” souvenir versions of (a) his special pomade, Wrexham Bouquet, with the bottle including a picture of St. Giles Church; and (b) original Wrexham Sauce – originally Nokes’s Wrexham Sauce, a relish. Now retired (previously a Chemist on Yorke Street) Nokes has sold the recipe and rights to Edisbury. But Edisbury is embroiled in a whole batch of legal cases – because competitors have been producing imitations.
